Step-by-step estimate

Answer these questions

Everything runs in your browser — nothing is sent anywhere.

1. How many days will you spend in China?
10 days
From 1 to 60 days. Longer trips spread one-off costs like arrival transport over more days.
2. Which budget tier fits how you travel?
3. Which cities will you visit? (select all that apply)
City choice moves the daily number more than anything else you control: Guilin and Zhuhai sit 15–25% below Beijing and Shanghai.
4. Will you take high-speed rail between cities?
Estimated at ¥450–650 per second-class leg (for example Beijing–Shanghai runs about ¥550), or ¥1,000–1,400 in first class on the Comfortable tier.
5. Include international flights in the total? Economy on Budget and Mid-range, premium cabins on Comfortable. Airfares swing more than anything else here, so treat this as a placeholder.

Your budget estimate

Answer the five questions

Your daily budget range, trip total in CNY and USD, the per-category breakdown, and three ways to spend less appear here.

What this tool covers

Seven cities, three tiers, five inputs

  • Daily bands — ¥350–500 Budget, ¥700–1,100 Mid-range, ¥1,500–2,200 Comfortable, built from real hostel, hotel, and restaurant prices.
  • City index — Beijing anchors 1.00; Shanghai runs about 6% higher; Xi'an, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Guilin, and Zhuhai sit below it.
  • Rail legs — priced per segment in second class, or first class on the Comfortable tier.
  • Attractions — major sites like the Forbidden City, the Great Wall, and the Terracotta Warriors are inside the daily band at ¥40–120 a ticket, plus ¥100–300 when you add a guide.

Important limitation

Estimates for planning, not quotes

Prices move with season, booking window, and exchange rate. These ranges are planning estimates for one traveler, built from published price bands and competitor-verified cost lines — use them to size a budget, then confirm live prices on your booking platform before you pay.

Real use cases

When to run this calculator

  • First rough budget — You know the dates and the cities and need a number to test against your savings.
  • Comparing tiers — You are deciding whether Comfortable is worth roughly double the Mid-range daily cost.
  • City trade-offs — You want to see what swapping one Beijing hotel night for Guilin does to the average.
  • Rail planning — You have four or more cities and need to know what the high-speed legs add.

Limitation

One traveler, mainland China, no tours

Figures cover one adult traveling independently: no group tours, no domestic flights, no luxury shopping. Visas, travel insurance, and souvenirs sit outside these ranges. The USD conversion uses an estimated ¥6.72 per USD — your card issuer's rate will differ.
